Brown Bag Lunch Series
December 13, 2023 12:00 – 1:00pm EST
On Zoom – 1 CE
Have you ever found yourself in a therapy session with a resistant teenager, struggling with a sense of helplessness as you navigate their challenging demeanor? Working with teenagers in therapy is complex and demanding, though often rewarding.
Join our Brown Bag Lunch workshop and learn to effectively engage with resistant teens and overcome their reluctance to participate in treatment.
The presentation will identify three intervention strategies that support building rapport with resistant teenagers. Tools for use as motivators to keep these teens engaged in treatment will be discussed.
We will also examine how creativity can be a powerful means for establishing connections and encouraging communication. Participants will discover how to integrate imaginative activities tailored to clients’ interests, creating an environment where they feel safely seen and understood.
Let’s explore together effective strategies for establishing valuable connections with resistant teenagers!
Course Objectives – Participants will be able to:
- Recognize the difference between maturationally appropriate hesitation and characterological clinical resistance.
- Identify three intervention strategies that support rapport-building with resistant teens.
