These courses will address the Supervisory roles and functions within a comparative framework using mental health models including: counseling, social work, art therapy, and psychoanalytic approaches. The course will begin defining the supervisory process and move into the dimensions that build the supervisee-supervisor relationship. Topics will address the historical, theoretical, practical, ethical and cultural aspects of supervisory work. The many functions of the supervisor are outlined such as case review, evaluation, supportive intervention, education, and professional growth. Additional areas of focus will be on a range of supervisory settings from agency to private practice, learning and teaching styles, the parallel process while supervising a range of settings and populations, leadership styles, supervisor self-care and countertransference reactions to the supervisee, handling conflicts, building and maintaining relationship with peers and treatment collaborations and working within the culture of an organization. A range of supervision modalities will be explored including group, individual, consultation and educational formats. Integration of the models will build the participant’s identity and function as a supervisor. The course format is lecture, discussion, reading and experiential small group activities.

The Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis (ACAP) is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) Registered Credential Training Provider Policy requirements. The grievance procedure about the program offering resulting attendee partial or full refund is detailed in Appendix B-12. The regular deadline to cancel a program with a full refund is normally 3 days prior to the start of the program.
Complaints:
The Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis (ACAP) is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) Registered Credential Training Provider Policy requirements. ACAP will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of the Education Chair in consultation with the members of the continuing education committee, and the ACAP Ethics Director and the Convention Director. This constitutes the Grievance Advisory Board. Dr. Semel is the chair of the board who oversees all grievance procedures.
While ACAP goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there will be occasional issues which come to the attention of the convention staff which require intervention and/or action on the part of the convention staff or an officer of ACAP. This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.
When a participant, either orally or in written format, files a grievance and expects action on the complaint, the following actions will be taken.
1. If the grievance concerns a speaker, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put his/her comments in written format. The Advisory Board will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring the confidentiality of the grieved individual.
2. If the grievance concerns a workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the Advisory Board will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the Advisory Board will:
a. attempt to move the participant to another workshop, or
b. provide a credit for a subsequent year’s workshop, or
c. provide a partial or full refund of the workshop fee.
Actions 2b and 2c will require a written note, documenting the grievance, for record keeping purposes. The note need not be signed by the grieved individual.
3. If the grievance concerns ACAP CE program, in a specific regard, the Advisory Board will attempt to arbitrate.
4. In cases where the person handling the grievance is also the speaker, another member of the Advisory Board will be appointed to resolve the participant’s complaints.
ACAP will report to Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) each complaint, dispute, or other grievance within sixty (60) days of ACAP’s initial knowledge of the matter.
