Understanding motivation, impulses and how we help people recognize choices in life!

Psychodynamic theory and practice has evolved a long way since the early days of psychoanalysis. Today evidence shows that analytic therapy has much to offer for the full range of emotional disorders. Modern Psychoanalysis is especially relevant in a world where ideas of cure are connected more with taking away low-functioning defenses rather than redirecting them and building in new skills for resilience and well-being. The course will introduce participants to the theory and practice of Modern Psychoanalysis. They will learn about unique intervention strategies based on emotional communication and how to use induced feelings and one’s own reactions to understand the case and unblock the course of treatment. Modern Psychoanalysis is a treatment approach that supports the ego with strategies that improve client compliance and cooperation in treatment. Originally developed to treat extremely regressed patients, it has been adapted and applied to a wide range of disorders and settings.

Participants will be able to:

IDENTIFY: the emotional responses to cases and distinguish between objective and subjective countertransference.

ARTICULATE: the emotional meanings of a range of intervention strategies.

APPLY: modern psychoanalytic concepts to life experiences by providing examples of how they manifest.
