Listening: Where Mind Meets Brain

Affective Systems in Clinical Practice: Neuropsychoanalysis in Action Series

10 CEs

What if improving therapeutic outcomes didn’t require learning a new technique—but listening differently?

5-week course,
Live on Zoom only,
from ACAP in Livingston, NJ

Wednesdays, Feb 25 – March 25, 2026, 7:00 to 8:40pm (EST)

Course Fee: $350

Co-sponsored by BGSP-NJ & NAAP

This course invites clinicians to deepen therapeutic listening using Jaak Panksepp’s emotional systems as a guide to understanding development, relationship, and psychopathology. By focusing on the Lust, Care, Panic–Grief, and Play Systems, clinicians learn how affective brain processes shape motivation, attachment, loss, and resilience—and how subtle shifts in listening can support safety, regulation, and meaningful change in therapy.

Designed to be immediately applicable to clinical work, the course integrates case material, discussion, video, and guest presenters, and concludes with a practical look at psychopharmacology and collaborative clinical practice when medication is part of treatment.

For clinicians seeking depth without pressure—and a new way of listening that supports change.

No prior participation in the Listening series is required.

This 5-week section addresses the foundations of neuropsychoanalytic thinking by bringing concepts alive in application to real case studies.

Live on Zoom only,

from ACAP in Livingston, NJ

Be on the lookout for the upcoming list of guest speakers!
