A discussion for our time, in 2025, considering all the changes, biases, advances, and struggles confronting us in the 2nd quarter of the 21st Century.
This course examines the evolving views of women’s psychic development and roles in society from both psychoanalytic and sociological perspectives. The work of Freud, Deutsch, Horney, Bonaparte, Klein, Jacobson, Thompson, Chodorow, Gilligan, and others will be considered.
We will be exploring:
- The shifting roles of women in our society.
- An examination of the psychodynamic view of women over the past 100 years.
- The significance cultural role diversification in treatment planning.
- Consideration of successful therapeutic techniques that may need to vary depending on gender, role identification, and the fluidity of social norms impacts on relationships and self concept.
Lillesol Kane, PhD NCPsyA
is a psychoanalyst with a private psychotherapy practice in Morristown, NJ and New York City. She has degrees from Johns Hopkins, Brown University, and the University of Sydney, Australia. She is member of the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis and the Society of Modern Psychoanalysts. She also mentors and teaches future psychoanalysts at the Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis in Livingston, NJ.
