This course focuses on the practical application of counseling theories and techniques for working with couples, marriages, and families in clinical mental health settings. Using systems and attachment-based perspectives, students develop foundational skills in assessment, case conceptualization, and intervention across the family life cycle. Emphasis is placed on addressing relational dynamics, communication patterns, and developmental and transitional challenges while considering the influence of environmental, intergenerational, and cultural factors. Students gain beginning competencies in ethical and culturally responsive practice when working with diverse couple and family systems.
