The One Year Program consists of four courses over one year. It provides an opportunity for mental health practitioners and professionals in various disciplines to enhance clinical skills, introducing innovative, Modern Psychoanalytic principles, theories, and techniques.

Participants learn effective ways to design interventions to reverse maladaptive emotional and behavioral patterns. They quickly begin to master new, practical clinical skills that can profoundly impact work with clients by promoting a collaborative, self-defining approach to growth.

ACAP’s methods for working in challenging situations can make the difference between burnout and career satisfaction through covering basic concepts in Modern Psychoanalysis.

Participants receive a certificate of completion at the end of each course.

The Analytic Listening

This course introduces students to the unique way that a clinician listens as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. By allowing clients to introduce topics without interference, the clinician listens to the client’s story, mode of communication, and the story that is not being told. The untold story is analyzed silently as the unconscious communication is reported in dreams, projections, defense mechanisms, resistances and transference communications. After listening attentively, the clinician intervenes to empower the client and strengthen the ego.

Participants will be able to:

  • Analyze unconscious communication reported in dreams, projections, defense mechanisms, resistances, and transference communications.
  • Listen as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist.
  • Explore communications for their symbolic meanings.
  • Design Interventions that can empower the client and strengthen the ego.
  • Assess the impact of specific interventions to facilitate progressive communication.
