Modern Psychoanalyst, trained under Hyman Spotnitz and Phyllis Meadow, and neuropsychologist, will present material from her most recent, soon-to-be-published book, Our Revolutionary Brain: How We Got Smarter. Among some of the questions she will ask and answer in ways pertinent to our clinical work with patients are:
- How much should we rely on memory to reflect the accuracy of past experiences?
- Why did Einstein say that reading fairy tales is the best preparation for life that you can provide to your child?
- Can our dreams reveal a medical condition we may not yet realize we have?
- How is gossip related to psychoanalytic work, and how is it related to metaphorical murder?
- What are the Body/Brain’s mechanisms for eliminating waste, and how is this process related to psychotherapeutic work?
Course Objectives – Participants will be able to:
- Discuss how the relationship between evolutionary and epigenetic changes in the brain can have a powerful impact on our clinical, psychotherapeutic practices.
- Describe how various brain mechanisms and their changes can positively or negatively impact functions like memories, dreams, somatic matters.
- Incorporate a new approach to studying and understanding symptom patterns and developing potential treatment plans/techniques that include a mind/brain/relationship perspective.
