This lecture and DBT skills class demonstration is, at the request of our BBL group, a follow-up to Dr. Miller’s Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Psychodynamic Practice: A Therapeutic Alliance presentation in September 2025. For November, she will give a brief review of key components of DBT and the structure of a skills group. The focus will then be on Mindfulness and Emotion Regulation. Dr. Miller will explain the DBT model for describing emotions and the use of Opposite Action, a specific emotional regulation skill for changing emotional responses. She will demonstrate this process through running a mini-group demo in her presentation.
Course Objectives – Participants will be able to:
- Describe the structure and goals of a DBT Skills group.
- Experience a DBT Skills class.
- Recognize therapeutic benefits a DBT Skills group for individual psychodynamic patients.
- Learn Basics of the DBT Model for describing Emotions and the skill of “Opposite Action.”
